Cannonsburg State Game Area

Cannonsburg, State Game Area, hunting, small game, michigan, kent, county
Cross-country ski trails offer great access to Cannonsburg State Game Area
If you were lucky enough to snag a public land turkey license, check out our post on Kent County's 1,300 acre Cannonsburg State Game Area on our sister blog Michigan Upland Hunting.
The Michigan DNR manages this area for Eastern Wild Turkey with a variety of practices, including: • Providing roosting sites: retaining mature trees when harvesting timber.
• Establishing brush through timber harvesting practices.
• Planting food plots.
• Maintaining grasslands and forest openings: planting, applying herbicides, mowing,
disking, fertilizing, haying, and prescribed burning.
• Maintaining hard mast (beech, oak) and soft mast (cherry, crabapples): allowing forests
to mature, retaining mast-producing trees when harvesting timber.
